Whitaker Studio’s new works – Container home in California’s desert

The world has never lacked natural beauty and luxury hotels. When the two are combined, what kind of sparks will they collide? In recent years, "wild luxury hotels" have become popular all over the world, and it is people's ultimate yearning for returning to nature.

Whitaker Studio's new works is blooming in California's rugged desert, this home bring the container architecture to a new level. The whole of the house is presented in the form of "starburst". The setting of each direction maximizes the view and provides sufficient natural light. According to different areas and uses, the privacy of the space has been well designed.

In desert areas, the top of a rock outcrop is accompanied by a small ditch washed by storm water. The container's "exoskeleton" is supported by concrete base columns, and water flows through it.

This 200㎡ home contains a kitchen, living room, dining room and three bedrooms. Skylights on the tilting containers flood every space with natural light. A range of furniture is also found throughout the spaces. At the rear of the building, two shipping containers follow the natural terrain, creating a sheltered outdoor area with a wooden deck and hot tub.

The exterior and interior surfaces of the building will be painted a bright white to reflect the sun's rays from the hot desert. A nearby garage is fitted with solar panels to provide the house with the electricity it needs.
